Barnwood Sign Project

I have been falling in love with all those tall signs made from old barn wood shown all over Pintrest but they can be quite expensive to buy. I was lucky enough to get my hands on a raw piece of barn wood and able to make my own sign. If you are lucky enough to find a rustic piece of wood yourself, this DIY project was quite easy to do with a wonderful outcome.

I wish I had taken more photos while I was going through the process, but I did not. I began by using a paint sample from Lowe's in the color Orange Glaze by Valspar and lightly brushed it over the wood. Just enough to add color without disguising the age of the barn wood slat. Once dry I stood the board up and free hand stenciled the letters on with a piece of chalk. I then filled in the chalk with a black paint I had left over from another project. Once the letters were dry a damp cloth removed the chalk lines that showed through..... and viola! My very own Happy Fall Y'all sign on an antique piece of barn wood!
